On October 15th, people from around the state of Michigan will gather in Lansing on the Capitol building steps for an occupation in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street.
The occupation begins with a rally at 10am, featuring Tony Trupiano of The Tony Show as the Master of Ceremonies. Other tentatively scheduled speakers are: Sara Feldman from Move Your Money Project, Monica Ross Williams from Reach Out Job Search, KAT who is a participant of Occupy Wall Street in NYC, and Mona Holland.
After the rally, the Occupy Lansing General Assembly will form to discuss future actions in the city, and those who wish to do so will stay for the occupation.
The press release reads:
This is a peaceful movement. Like Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Michigan is a leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders and political persuasions. The one thing we all have in common is that we are the 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the top 1%. We plan to use the revolutionary tactic of mass occupation to restore democracy in America. We also encourage the use of nonviolence to achieve our ends and maximize the safety of all participants.
We are a grassroots, leaderless movement. We are not hierarchical. We are a horizontal movement. Everyone is equal. Everyone is a leader. We are the 99%.
A planning meeting will be held on October 12 at 7:30pm and will take place at The North Star Center (106 Lathrop St., Lansing, MI 48912).
Everyone is invited to attend all of the events.

I’ll be in Chicago on the 15th but I highly encourage people to upload their pictures and videos online. I can’t believe how few pictures there are out there.

Are there any car pools being organized?
Hi, Teresa. It depends on where you’re coming from. Check out our linkroll. Maybe there’s a group in your local community that an help you with that question.
Grand Rapids is in full occupation now 24/7 @ Ah-Nab-Awen Park.
Right on, Occupy Grand Rapids! We’ll post about it soon. Peace and solidarity!
The United States is not a democracy.
All of you involved with the “Occupy” whatever movement had better get your facts straight.
The U.S. was meant to be a Constitutional Republic.
The definition of democracy is mob rule. The word democracy is not even mentioned by the Founders.
It is not found in the Constitution, nor the Bill of Rights, not even the Declaration of Independence!
Hello?!! Capitalism is NOT the problem. It is corporate fascism.
So before you all decide that socialism and corporatism are what’s right for this country, read the
above documents and then tell us you are still for democracy, or mob rule.
Wake up from your zombie sleep America, please. I’m a former Michigan native stuck in California. Would like to think that my fellow Michiganders are brighter than this. Let’s hope so.
don’t worry bigdaddy. 99% of lansing residents will be at spartan stadium or watching the game on tv. i hope they all stick around until at least monday though… i want to be able to ask them questions about the history of our nation that they will never be able to answer. i’m sure the crowd will be a diverse group of anarchists, communists and union members paid to be there. should be a real hoot! lol
Wow, we like picked the most important day of the entire college football season guys… it’s like when the only real University of Michigan goes up against the cowpokes of East Lansing in probably like the most radically awesome football games besides the Navy versus Notre Dame game.
I know it’s like late and all that stuff, but can we move the date to a better day? Maybe like next week or something? It shouldn’t be all that hard to get in touch with the 5-10 people that will show up… we just need someone with a phone to call the local union halls up in Lansing.
Is it too late? Peace out; I’m going for a Silly Walk with my Ewok action figure. Mike
